Strongly up for the fifth consecutive day, the Αthens Stock Exchange, led by the banking sector, is moving towards new 13-year highs, taking advantage of the broadly positive sentiment in global markets.

Specifically, the General Index is trading at 1,434.9 points, up 1.03%, while earlier it moved as high as 1,437.41 points. (+1.2%), turnover is up at 60 million, with trading volume at 14.4 million pieces. The banking index leads the rise with a 2.2% gain to 1,241 points, the FTSE is up 1.2% to 3,496 points, and the FTSEM mid-cap follows lower at 2,305 points with +0.4%.

And the investment mood seems to be undiminished, with the GI not only having passed the zone of the key short-term resistances of 1,420–1,425 points (which, if secured at the close, paves the way for further movement to 1,470) with characteristic ease, but also now looking for a new 13-year high.

On the board In the day's moves, banks are well back on buyers' radars, with Piraeus up +1.8%, Eurobank up +1.7%, and Alpha and National Bank up 2.5%, taking 4 of the top 5 turnover positions. In second place, breaking through the banking frame, Mytilineos continues for a fifth day strongly up +1%, as does PPC from where it ended yesterday with new gains of 1.15%. In other buyers' picks, Titanas jumps 2.77%, Sarantis follows closely with +2.2%, Viohalco gains 1.6% and ELPE 1%. Jumbo is up 0.8%, OPAP is mildly up +0.5%, while OTE is down slightly by 0.2% and TERNA Energy by 0.55%. Lamda and Quest are correcting after their strong gains yesterday, at -1% and -2% respectively, while Autohellas limits the pressure to -0.5% as it has been trading without dividend rights since yesterday.

In the mid-cap sector, Ideal stands out with a 2.55% jump after it came to an agreement to sell 100% of Astir to Guala, Thrace Plastics is up 1.9% after its results and Intralot is up 1.4%, while Intrakat continues down today at -0.9%. Beyond that, El. Venizelos is up 1% and Optima is mildly stronger at 0.4%. The buyers' lead also remains clear on the whole board, where 73 stocks are moving up versus 49 down.
