The Competition Commission gave the cooperation of Hellenic Wineries with TEMES and Premia Properties the "go-ahead" on May 1.

At a meeting of the Commission's Section, it was unanimously decided (Decision 847/2024) to approve the notified concentrations. These include: (a) the formation of a joint venture (Joint Company) by "Hellenic Wineries Incorporated" and "Messinia Tourism Enterprises Incorporated" taking control of each other; and (b) the change of control of the company "Vineyards Navarino Unipersonal Agricultural Winery Commercial and In

In its assessment of the transaction, the Competition Commission examined the interconnected nature of the transactions, which were notified as separate transactions, the nature of the control acquired, and the functional autonomy of the joint venture. After looking into the relevant markets that both parties operate in (such as the market for growing and producing grapes for winemaking and the market for distributing and marketing bottled wine), the Competition Commission came to the conclusion that the deal in question would not change the competitive landscape either horizontally or vertically and therefore would not affect the level of competition or lead to a reduction of competition in them.

According to the previous announcement, the new winery will be built according to the global standards of modern winery estates. The facilities will have a production capacity that will initially exceed 300,000 bottles per year, strengthening the dynamics of the Peloponnesian vineyard, the largest wine-producing region in Greece. The winery will be open to visitors, giving them the opportunity to learn about the rich wine history of the region and its qualitative characteristics.

The historic privately owned vineyards of Navarino Vineyards, up to 50 years old, are located in Mouzaki Trifyllia, at an altitude of 400–600 m, and cover an area of approximately 600 hectares. In the Navarino Vineyards' areas, the vineyards have been preserved and restored with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Merlot, which have been present in Trifyllia since the 1980s. At the same time, parts of the vineyards were replanted with Greek varieties such as Agiorgitiko, Mavrodaphne, Assyrtiko, Kydonitsa, and Malagouzia in order to enrich the wine production.
