The construction of the water supply pipeline in the settlement of Kineta is proceeding at a fast pace, as EYDAP published the tender for the project, which is funded with 6.4 million euros from the Region of Attica through the "Attica 2021–2027" program.
"I am happy because today one of the most vital projects for the entire region has been put out to tender a month and a half earlier than we had originally committed to. On March 15, we said that the project would be put out to tender by the end of June in order to initiate all the necessary actions to provide a permanent solution to the chronic problem of water unsuitability faced by more than 21,000 residents of the wider Kineta area. And this is what we are doing today. With methodical and strategic planning. True to our commitments for balanced development in all the neighborhoods of Attica, we will not stop working for a minute in order to be useful, giving a solution to every problem that has been plaguing citizens for years," said Attica Region Governor Nikos Chardalias.
He added: "Our excellent cooperation with EYDAP has given us the opportunity to take the first step in the construction of the pipeline, and we are determined to speed up as much as possible the procedures to get the water running in Kineta. At the same time, we are also committed to the immediate start of the procedures related to the study of the internal network of the area, a project that will also be financed by the Region of Attica, so that at the end of our term of office, the water supply problem in Kineta will be definitively solved. Access to quality drinking water is a non-negotiable right for all citizens, and we are not going to make any discount on this.".
On the occasion of the approval of the tender for the project, the Managing Director of EYDAP, Harris Sachinis, announced that: "We are one step closer to the completion of a project of utmost importance for the quality of life of the residents and the development prospects of the Megara region through the provision of high-quality water supply and sewerage services. EYDAP, in line with its strategic development plan, is constantly expanding its coverage area in order to provide top-quality water and services to more and more citizens.".
The Region of Attica's decision will result in the implementation of the tender for the award of the contractor for the construction of a new central reservoir with a capacity of 3,000 m3 and a water transmission pipeline with a total length of 15 km by the end of June 2024, with the goal of completing the project by the end of 2027.
The project, with a total budget of €6.4 million, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is included in the NSRF 2021–2027 programming period.
It is the main contract that will cover the implementation of major infrastructure works that will ensure the supply of quality water, solving a long-standing and paramount problem. With the completion of the project, EYDAP will ensure an efficient water supply for the residents and tourists of the region.
