The total building activity (private and public) in March 2024 amounted to 3,756 building permits in the whole country based on the issued building permits, as announced on Thursday by ELSTAT.

The above-issued building permits correspond to 873,036 m2 of surface area and 3,285,556 m3 of volume; that is, they showed an increase of 39.8% in the number of building permits, an increase of 34.8% in surface area and an increase of 11.2% in volume compared to the corresponding month of 2023.

The issued permits for Private Building activity in the whole country in the month of March 2024 amounted to 3,728 building permits, corresponding to 864,988 m2 of surface area and 3,248,483 m3 of volume, i.e. an increase of 39.6% in the number of building permits, an increase of 37.7% in surface area and an increase of 13.1% in volume compared to the corresponding month of 2023.

The issued permits for Public Building Activity in the month of March 2024 in the whole country amounted to 28 building permits, corresponding to 8,048 m2 of surface area and 37,073 m3 of volume. The share of public construction activity in the total construction volume for the month of March 2024 is 1.1%.

During the period of the last twelve months, i.e. from April 2023 to March 2024, the total building activity (Private-Public) based on the issued building permits in the whole country amounted to 29,512 building permits, corresponding to 6,780,660 m2 of surface area and 30,754,562 m3 of volume. Compared to the corresponding period April 2022–March 2023, there was an increase of 14.0% in the number of building permits, an increase of 16.3% in surface area and an increase of 16.2% in volume.

During the same time period, April 2023–March 2024, Private Construction activity showed in the whole country an increase of 14.1% in the number of issued building permits, an increase of 16.8% in area and an increase of 16.7% in volume compared to the corresponding period, April 2022–March 2023. The share of public construction activity in the total construction volume for the above period is 2.2%.

In the quarter January–March 2024, the Total Building Activity shows, in the whole country, an increase of 42.0% in the number of building permits, an increase of 38.3% in the area and an increase of 25.0% in the volume compared to the corresponding quarter of the year 2023. During the same period January to March 2024, Private Construction activity showed in the whole of the country an increase of 42.2% in the number of building permits, an increase of 40.4% in surface area and an increase of 26.7% in volume compared to the period January to March 2023
