The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) customs inspectors have found illegal gas stations in Heraklion, Crete, and Kos, leading to their two-year sealing.

In particular:

⦁ Following the use of information obtained from a complaint in the appodixi application of the AADE, it was found that a handwritten Retail Sales Receipt was issued for the sale of heating oil, which had not been transmitted to the information systems of the AADE. The on-site check at the petrol station located in Heraklion, Crete, revealed incomplete documents for the fuel in the tanks, and the offence of smuggling is being investigated.

⦁ Customs inspectors of the Kos Customs Office, carrying out a regular check at a hotel on the island, found the possession of adulterated fuel. Their control continued at the petrol station where the supply was made and found the existence of smuggled fuel in:

  • three tankers, totalling 5,960 litres and
  • five tanks containing 1,072 litres of diesel and 11,853 litres of gasoline.
  • The fuel was seized and will be recovered from the tanks and tankers.

At the same time, the cases are being forwarded to the prosecutor for criminal prosecution, and, in addition, due diligence procedures are being immediately activated to prohibit the sale of fuel to businesses linked to the service stations.
