In May 2024, turnover amounted to €3.72 billion, an increase of 3.1% compared with May 2023, which had stood at €3.61 billion, and a decrease of 3.3% compared with April 2024, which had stood at €3.84 billion, according to ELSTAT data for retail trade enterprises.
For enterprises in the retail trade sector, excluding motor vehicles, food, and fuel, with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to €1.01 billion, an increase of 4.0% compared with May 2023, which was €0.98 billion, and a decrease of 4.8% compared with April 2024, which was 1.07 billion euros.
The retail trade of sports equipment, with an increase of 20.9%, and cosmetics and toiletries, with an increase of 14.4%, were the activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in May 2024. On the opposite side, the retail trade of carpets, carpets, and wall and floor coverings and the retail trade of newspapers and stationery, with a decrease of 16.9% and 16.8%, respectively, recorded the largest decline.
The Region of Western Macedonia and the Region of Central Macedonia, with an increase of 18.6% and 4.5%, respectively, were the regions that showed the largest increase in turnover in May 2024 compared to last year.
For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade sector with the obligation to keep double-entry books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to €1.29 billion, an increase of 3.3% compared to May 2023, which stood at €1.25 billion.
For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade sector, excluding motor vehicles, food, and fuel, for which data are available on a monthly basis, turnover in May 2024 amounted to €0.52 billion, an increase of 3.0% compared with May 2023, when it stood at €0.50 billion.
