A two-day lockout and a fine imposed by the auditors of the Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) on a well-known restaurant in Mykonos, which was found not to cut receipts, were eleven in number and had a total value of more than 7,000 euros.

In particular, the auditors of the Independent Revenue Authority found the violation in the Mykonian business, in Agia Anna, and proceeded to the procedural: a fine and a lockout for two days. At first, he had his legal adviser argue that he could not be locked out because the same VAT number also operates a hotel. But he failed to say that the hotel is a separate and distinct establishment.

He then attempted to gain publicity, arguing that the tourism product was being defamed. Having failed, in the end he tried to show that, at the time, when the lock was about to be put in—i.e., at noon today—customers entered the restaurant and, therefore, the sealing of the premises should be suspended.

The AADE inspectors eventually sealed the establishment as needed, with the help of the police. Moreover, following these violations, the company will be audited on a priority basis both for its declared income and for VAT, based on the provisions of a relevant decision.
