Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview with Mega's "Live News" programme and journalist Nikos Evangelatos, said for the first time that there will be a trilateral meeting later this month with Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the leader of the pseudo-state Ersin Tatar.
"There can never be a full normalisation of our relations with Turkey without a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem. On the other hand, it is my view and that of President Christodoulides that the improvement of Greek-Turkish relations helps to resolve the Cyprus problem," Prime Minister Mitsotakis said on the Cyprus issue.
"Greece played a decisive role in the fact that - and this is the first time since I am saying this publicly - Guterres, Tatar and Christodoulides will meet in New York in October to restart the dialogue process between the two communities," he revealed.
"If there is then a need for another format involving Greece, obviously we will be present, but Greece has played a crucial role and I believe that the improvement of Greek-Turkish relations has helped in its own way."
"Greece helped to at least start a discussion because we cannot talk about two states today in Cyprus is something that we Europe, the UN, Cyprus can never accept. But the fact that for a year now there has been the special envoy of the UN Secretary General this was not done in a vacuum. It was done with the active participation of Greece and with the full participation of the Greek people.
