The above is mentioned in a relevant information note of the Independent Authority for Public Revenues. At the same time, the authority states:

  • The number of pending refund claims from 1 January 2022 to date has decreased by 62%. In 2024, 4,022,000 refund requests were submitted and 4,717,000 requests were processed.
  • Individual income tax refunds from this year's returns have been completed, through payments or offsets, at a rate of 93.55%, exceeding €432 million.
  • Last month, interoperability for mass offsetting of tax refunds with social security fund debts (via EDIKA) was completed, further accelerating automated refunds.
  • Following the implementation of the new centralised refund system, almost 95% of refund requests, for which no audit is required and there is no legal or factual obstacle to refund, are refunded or offset centrally through automated procedures.
  • It is clarified that the number of pending refunds is subject to seasonality, depending on the period of submission of each type of return.
