Turnover in the manufacturing sector decreased both on an annual and monthly basis in August, according to provisional data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority.
Specifically, the General Index of Turnover in Industry (total domestic and external market) in August showed a decrease of 4.1% compared to the corresponding period last year, while compared to July 2024, it decreased by 23.6%.
With regard to the 12-month period September 2023–August 2024, however, the average General Index increased by 1.2% compared to the corresponding period September 2022–August 2023.
Annual comparison
When compared to the same month in August 2023, there was a 4.1% decrease in the general index of industrial turnover in August 2024.
* A decrease of 4.5 of the Manufacturing Business Cycle Index. Changes in the indicators of the following two-digit industries: the production of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers; computer, electronic, and optical products; coke and refined petroleum products; wood and wood products; and the production of products from wood and wood products.

* 41.1% increase in the Mining and Quarrying Business Cycle Index. Changes in the indicators of the two-digit industries—mining and quarrying, other mining and quarrying—were the main cause of this increase.
2. From the changes in the indicators of the individual markets:
* 14.7% decrease in the Foreign Market Turnover Index.
* A 2.0% decrease in the Domestic Market Turnover Index by 14.7%.
