17.1% jump in new business registrations in the second quarter
The Hellenic Statistical Authority has announced data on the demography of businesses in Greece and in particular on new business registrations (business start-ups) and business bankruptcy for the second quarter of 2024.

The Hellenic Statistical Authority has announced data on the demography of businesses in Greece and in particular on new business registrations (business start-ups) and business bankruptcy for the second quarter of 2024.

Specifically, new business registrations for all sectors of the economy in Q2 2024 amounted to 31,489, an increase of 17.1% compared to 26,897 in Q2 2023 and a decrease of 19.5% compared to 39,128 in Q1 2024.

For the sectors of economic activity with the largest contribution to total turnover, according to the data of the Statistical Business Register of the reference year 2021, the largest increase in the number of new business registrations in Q2 2024 compared to Q2 2023 was recorded in the sector "accommodation and food service activities" (17.9%) and in the sector "transport and storage" (16.0%), while the largest decrease was recorded in the sector "electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply" (18.0%) and in the sector "manufacturing" (5.7%).

The number of business bankruptcies for all sectors of the economy for the second quarter of 2024 amounted to 7, while for the second quarter of 2023 they are not published for reasons of statistical confidentiality regarding the protection of the identity of enterprises.
