In September, the country's trade surpassed €3 billion, with the balance as a whole running a deficit of €25.1 billion in the first nine months of 2024.

In September, the country's trade surpassed €3 billion, with the balance as a whole running a deficit of €25.1 billion in the first nine months of 2024, according to ELSTAT data. 

VALUE OF IMPORTS

The total value of imports in September amounted to €7,173.3 million against €7,024.4 million in the same month of 2023, showing an increase of 2.1% in euro terms. 

The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of September 2024 showed an increase of €182.5 million, i.e. 3.5%, while the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of September 2024 showed an increase of €167.5 million, i.e. 3.3%, compared to the month of September 2023.

VALUE OF EACH

The total value of exports in the month of September 2024 amounted to €4,115.6 million euros compared to €4,315.5 million in the same month of the year 2023, showing a decrease in euros of 4.6%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of September 2024 showed an increase of €369.9 million i.e., 13.3%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of September 2024 showed an increase of €366.7 million i.e., 13.2%, compared to the month of September 2023.

TRADE DEFICIT

The trade deficit in the month of September 2024 amounted to €3,057.7 million compared to €2,708.9 million in the same month of the year 2023, showing an increase in euros of 12.9%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of September 2024 showed a decrease in the deficit of €187.4 million, or 7.9%, while the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of September 2024 showed a decrease of €199.2 million, or 8.4%, compared to the month of September 2023.

VALUE OF IMPORTS

The total value of imports in the period January-September 2024 amounted to €62,965 million compared to €61,69 million in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase in terms of 2.1%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 1,284.1 million, i.e. 2.8%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships showed an increase of EUR 1,248.3 million, i.e. 2.7%, compared to the period January-September 2023.

JANUARY - SEPTEMBER 

The total value of imports in the period January-September 2024 amounted to 62,965.1 million euros (68,211.1 million dollars) compared to 61,691.5 million euros (66,624.0 million dollars) in the same period of 2023, showing an increase of 2.1% in euros. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 1,284.1 million, or 2.8%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships showed an increase of EUR 1,248.3 million, or 2.7%, compared to the January-September 2023 period.

The total value of exports in the period January-September 2024 amounted to 37,834.9 million euros (41,229.2 million dollars) compared to 38,537.9 million euros (41,863.0 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing a decrease in euros of 1.8%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products increased by EUR 85.0 million, or 0.3%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships increased by EUR 98.2 million, or 0.4%, compared to the January-September 2023 period.

The trade deficit in the period January-September 2024 amounted to 25,130.2 million euros (26,981.9 million dollars) compared to 23,153.6 million euros (24,761.0 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase in euros of 8.5%. The corresponding figure excluding oil products showed an increase of EUR 1,199.1 million, i.e. 6.3%, and the corresponding figure excluding oil products and ships showed an increase of EUR 1,150.1 million, i.e. 6.1%.
