Trade deficit increased by 18.7% in November
The country's trade deficit increased by 18.7% in November last year, as imports increased and exports decreased.

The country's trade deficit increased by 18.7% in November last year, as imports increased and exports decreased.

Specifically, according to ELSTAT data on merchandise trade, the total value of imports in November 2024 amounted to 7,205.6 million euros (7,637.1 million dollars) compared to 6,983.7 million euros (7,525.5 million dollars) in the same month of 2023, showing an increase of 3.2% in euros. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of November 2024 showed an increase of 256.6 million euros, i.e. 4.9%, while the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of November 2024 showed an increase of 258.7 million euros, i.e. 5.0%, compared to the month of November 2023.

The total value of exports in the month of November 2024 amounted to 4,024.6 million euros (4,291.1 million dollars) compared to 4,304.3 million euros (4,665.9 million dollars) in the same month of 2023, showing a decrease of 6.5% in euros. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of November 2024 showed an increase of 157.5 million euros, i.e. 5.2%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of November 2024 showed an increase of 173.8 million euros, i.e. 5.8%, compared to the month of November 2023.

The trade deficit in the month of November 2024 amounted to EUR 3,181.0 million (USD 3,346.0 million) compared to EUR 2,679.4 million (USD 2,859.6 million) in the same month of the year 2023, showing an increase, in euro terms, of 18.7%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in the month of November 2024 showed an increase in the deficit of EUR 99.1 million, or 4.5%, while the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships in the month of November 2024 showed an increase of EUR 84.9 million, or 3.8%, compared to the month of November 2023.

The total value of imports in the period January-November 2024 amounted to 77,379.3 million euros (83,685.4 million dollars) compared to 75,948.2 million euros (81,808.6 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase in euros of 1.9%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 2,222.3 million, or 4.0%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships showed an increase of EUR 2,178.8 million, or 3.9%, compared to the January-November 2023 period.

The total value of exports in the period January-November 2024 amounted to 45,868.8 million euros (49,904.7 million dollars) compared to 47,278.3 million euros (51,228.6 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing a decrease in euros of 3.0%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products showed an increase of EUR 401.6 million, or 1.2%, and the corresponding value excluding petroleum products and ships showed an increase of EUR 425.5 million, or 1.3%, compared to the January-November 2023 period.

The trade deficit in the period January-November 2024 amounted to 31,510.5 million euros (33,780.7 million dollars) compared to 28,669.9 million euros (30,580.0 million dollars) in the same period of the year 2023, showing an increase in euros of 9.9%. The corresponding figure excluding oil products showed an increase of EUR 1,820.7 million, i.e., 7.8%, and the corresponding figure excluding oil products and ships showed an increase of EUR 1,753.3 million, i.e., 7.5%.
