Car sales in 2024 slowed down
The growth of new car sales slowed down noticeably in 2024, according to data released today (15/1) by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The growth of new car sales slowed down noticeably in 2024, according to data released today (15/1) by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

In particular, a total of 243,796 cars (new or used foreign cars) were circulated for the first time last year compared to 238,117 circulated in 2023, showing an increase of 2.4% (an increase of 16.1% was recorded in the 12 months January-December 2023 compared to the corresponding period of 2022). New cars amounted to 148,276 compared to 145,667 circulated in 2023, showing an increase of 1.8%.

Car sales in the country decreased by 4.9% last December, as, according to ELSTAT, 14,815 cars (new or used foreign cars) were circulated for the first time in that month compared to 15. 581 cars circulated in the corresponding month in 2023 (an increase of 30.1% was recorded in December 2023 compared to the corresponding month in 2022). New cars amounted to 9,314 compared to 8,919 cars circulated in December 2023, an increase of 4.4%.

At the same time, 3,277 new motorcycles over 50 cc (new and used foreign) were released in December last year compared to 2,543 in the same month in 2023, showing an increase of 28.9% (a decrease of 0.2% had occurred in December 2023 compared to the same month in 2022). New motorcycles totaled 3,166 compared to 2,413 registered in December 2023, an increase of 31.2%.

For the whole of 2024, 81,897 new motorcycles over 50 cc (new and used foreign) were circulated compared to 69,425 circulated in 2023, an increase of 18% (an increase of 15.9% was recorded in the 12 months of January-December 2023 compared to the same period in 2022). New motorcycles totaled 77,979 compared to 65,814 motorcycles registered in 2023, an increase of 18.5%.
