The Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) and the Ministry of National Economy and Finance have reminded freelancers and self-employed individuals of the requirement to connect their business account with the IRIS direct payment system in order to accept payments from their clients.

AADE also informs the debtors of the postponement of the compliance deadline to Monday, September 2, given that the August 31 deadline set as the cut-off date is a Saturday.

The message was sent to 294,510 obligors who, according to the available data, have not yet proceeded to link their business account to IRIS.

It is recalled that IRIS provides significant advantages (cost reduction and accelerated processing of transactions) for both consumers and professionals.

In particular, through IRIS:

  • Customers can make payments without any commission, 24 hours a day, without the need to know the bank account number of the professional or to register their debit or credit card details. They only need to know the mobile phone number or VAT number of the professional or scan the QR code corresponding to the professional's bank account.
  • Professionals receive the money instantly (in 2 seconds), even if the bank they work with is different from the client's bank. They also pay, on average, 50% lower commissions compared to transactions using POS.

It is recalled that:

  • The IBAN that professionals and self-employed persons will choose when registering must be registered in the Professional Accounts Register of the AADE in the myAADE digital portal (myaade.gov.gr) under Applications > Tax Services > Professional Account.
  • The limit of EUR 500 per day for transactions through IRIS applies per client and not to the total payments that the professional can receive during the 24-hour period. For example, a professional can receive in one day 4 payments of 500 euros each (a total of 2,000 euros).
  • A fine of €1,500 is foreseen for those who do not register in IRIS by the deadline.
