Attica Group's turnover increased in both of its geographical sectors of operation (shipping and international sailing) for the nine months of 2024. Note that the company incorporated the entire nine-month reporting period of ANEK's business for the first time after completion of the merger on 4.12.2023.
Overall, in the nine months of 2024 compared to the nine months of 2023, consolidated turnover increased by 27.4% to reach €593.4 million from €465.6 million, mainly due to the integration of ANEK.
Consolidated Earnings Before Taxes, Financial, Investment and Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to €93.5 million compared to a profit of €121.3 million in the first nine months of 2023 and consolidated profit after tax amounted to €45.3 million compared to a profit of €59.9 million in the first nine months of 2023.
Note that non-recurring costs from the merger and operational integration of ANEK, such as the voluntary redundancy program, vessel upgrade costs, training and integration costs for crews and shore-based personnel, and other merger costs totaling €18.5 million, burden the results for the nine months and the 2024 financial year in general. Moreover, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), applicable for the first time from 1 January 2024, charged the Group € 14.1 million for the purchase of emission rights, impacting its operating costs.
The Group's borrowings decreased from € 588.5 million as of 31 December 2023 to € 578.2 million as of 30 September 2024, while unused financing limits amounted to € 34 million.
The implementation of an extensive investment program led to a decrease in cash and cash equivalents to EUR 42.3 million at 30.9.2024 from EUR 103.4 million at 31.12.2023. The Group spent a total of EUR 145.1 million on investments during the nine-month reporting period. The Group paid in advance for a long-term charter that included the option to buy two E-Flexer ships still under construction, purchased the passenger-carrier (P/C) fast ferry vessel "Highspeed 3" (ex. "THUNDER"), exercised its right to purchase the passenger-cargo vessels "Kissamos" and "Kydon," purchased a new hotel complex in Naxos, renovated the hotel in Tinos, carried out numerous digitization projects, and maintained and improved the Group's ships.
