There is no plan by the Independent Authority for Public Revenues (AADE) to extend the deadline for submitting tax returns, which expires on July 26, the head of the authority, Giorgos Pitsilis, clarified, speaking to SKAI News.
Mr. Pitsilis said that, so far, the number of returns submitted is approaching 5 million and that, with a rate of 130,000 returns submitted per day, "the numbers are coming out." "A great effort has been made," said the head of the AADE, and he urged everyone to continue the effort in the remaining days so that for the first year we can reach our target.
Mr. Pitsilis also referred to the great progress that has been achieved in tax refunds, stressing, "Friday you file, Monday you get the refund." The figures show that almost 90% of VAT credit returns have been paid.
On the tax evasion side, progress is measurable, as the VAT gap (what VAT should be collected and what VAT is actually collected) was 30% in 2017. It is now at 15% (for 2022), and the aim is to reduce it further to 6–7% as soon as possible, according to Giorgos Pitsilis.
In addition to intensifying controls, e-books, and e-invoices, the near completion of the POS-cash connection has played an important role. The digital shipping label that is in the works and will also regulate product movement strengthens the "preventive ecosystem of tools," as Pitsilis put it.
Regarding the presumptive way of taxing professionals, Mr. Pitsilis commented meaningfully that there are few doubts.
For the reward of prudent taxpayers, he left open the possibility of reducing the withholding rates for the issuance of tax information, while a digital platform will soon be launched to facilitate the ENFIA certificate of deceased decedents by notaries.
