According to the final figures released by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the state budget recorded a primary surplus of €3,197 million in the period of January–May 2024, compared to a target of €802 million and against a surplus of €2,300 million euros for the same period in 2023.

Greeks will have to work 175 days out of the year in 2024 just to pay taxes and state contributions. This year's Tax Freedom Day is on June 25, which is an improvement over 2023 and 2022 by 3 and 9 days, respectively.
